Classic Land Rover Getting On The Water

GETTING ON THE WATER

I had mentally prepared myself for cold and wet Scottish weather, and as someone who gets cold when the fridge door is left open for too long in our house, I wanted to be prepared

So, I contacted our friends at Lomo Watersport, the Glasgow-based water sport and outdoor specialists, for advice. We’ve previously tested equipment from the company and found it to be of good quality while offering excellent value for money.

When sea kayaking, you should always wear a buoyancy aid, dress appropriately for the water temperature, check the weather forecast, and plan your route.

Importantly, carry a means of calling for help. As I already had a kayak and buoyancy aid, I asked Lomo’s marketing man, Robb what other kit I’d need.

He recommended the following: A Storm CX Farmer John wetsuit, which is popular with kayakers (01); Neoprene kayak gloves (02); Triton 5mm wetsuit boots (03): a Lomo Spraytop CX (04): and a 60lt Dry Bag (05) (05). The kit easily fitted in the dry bag along with some other kayaking accessories I was taking along

Even though we had beautiful sunshine over the two days we were on the water, I started both days wearing the wetsuit, boots, gloves and spray top, the equipment protecting against the cold water.

It gave me a lot of confidence that if the elements had changed for the worse, I would have been adequately protected.

Regrettably, I did not have a midge head net, and one will be on my list for next time. Lomo also sells sit-on-top kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, diving and sailing accessories, multi-use dry bags, outdoor equipment and more, even midge head nets!
