Lomo Aluminum Walking Pole Review
Glaswegian brand Lomo is better known for their watersports kit, but with their head torches and poles, they’ve proved they can more than cut it in the walking world. – and at bargain prices too. Here we have a terrific pair of easy to adjust aluminium poles with solid flick lock adjustment and a soft, supple hand strap. The materials and construction feel high quality, although the green paint has chipped after a fair bit of use. the flick lock works fine and there’s not too much wobble when you give the whole thing a flex at full extension. It’s easily the chunkiest of all the poles here: the locking junctions are bulky and the elongated grip is weightier than most, making it tough to stash. On the plus side, it feels so sturdy that I seldom lack confidence on tricky placements, and there’s no sense it’s going to blow away in the wind. Plus, the chunky hand grip is great for grabbing lower down on hard ascents. And it doesn’t actually feel heavy, even though much lighter poles are available. Lomo themselves make a lighter carbon pair (202g, £45) which is also highly impressive, but really you won’t go far wrong with these simpler ones. LH
